Cheque Presentation to Serian UK

May 31st  2016

Chris Nightingale Immediate Past Master (right) with John Cassell (left) from Erlegh Masonic Lodge in Berkshire presenting a cheque to the Chair of Serian UK, Janine FitzGerald (centre).

Chris said:

I wanted to select one charity which was close to my own personal circumstances and heart.  Living in Africa, I am well aware that there is a constant need for charitable support among many of its communities, that Secondary Education is beyond the aspirations of many, and that a little money, in  British terms, can go a long way, in African terms, if judicially spent.  I selected Serian UK, a UK registered Charity. All of the proceeds go to Noonkodin Secondary School situated in a remote rural area of Northern Tanzania, which supports disadvantaged Maasai.  There are 200 young people at the school with a higher percentage of girl students. If girls are educated they will ensure that their children have the same opportunity.”

The Trustees of Serian UK and the entire community at Noonkodin School thank all the members of Erlegh Masonic Lodge for their generosity. Two female students will be sponsored throughout their secondary education and a large supply of much needed maths and science text books will be bought. The donation will make a real difference – thank you again.

In 2015 Noonkodin Secondary School celebrated its 10th Anniversary and a party was held for all the students and staff.

These two photos show the students enjoying themselves. The party was held after the National Exams so it was a double celebration.

Noonkodin Secondary School
Celebrating 10 years: 2005–2015

Since 2005, this barren-yet-beautiful landscape of Northern Tanzania has
transformed from a few bricks into four classrooms, a science laboratory, a
library, two teacher houses, girls’ and boys’ dormitories and an entrance to be
proud of.
