Serian means ‘peace’ in the Maasai language, representing our philosophy that sustainable development means peaceful co-existence with one another and with the environment.
Serian UK is a Registered Charity (No. 1111711) recognised by the Charity Commission of England and Wales. Our aim is to promote education for sustainable ways of living.
Since 2005, Serian UK has supported Noonkodin Secondary School, a unique school located in the remote Maasai village of Eluwai. Noonkodin provides around 200 students aged 14-25+ with an education that brings together indigenous and Western knowledge, skills and teaching methods.
What we do:
Serian UK supports Noonkodin School, Tanzania:
- through fund-raising, arranging staff and student sponsors in the UK and abroad.
- building partnerships with UK schools to promote sustainability & respect for the world around us.
- promoting the school and African indigenous cultures through various events throughout the UK.
- overseeing a volunteer programme to facilitate exchange of ideas and skills with the school and volunteers.
We are proud of our track record of NO OVERHEADS for five years from 2005-2010, no UK administration costs, and no ‘hidden’ expenditures. Every penny donated, apart from bank charges, has been used directly to support the projects in Tanzania.
This is thanks to the generosity of our Trustees, who work from home and have covered postage, transport, website hosting costs and other expenses out of their own pockets.
