Peter Burford has been the treasurer of Serian UK since its foundation in 2005, having been railroaded into the job by his daughter, Gemma!! He has visited the school at least twice a year since becoming treasurer whilst visiting the family in Arusha, with his wife Sue.
Peter has regular meetings with the headmaster and staff of Noonkodin School, and is regarded very much as a ‘father figure’.
Peter worked as an accountant for Ford Motor Company for 32 years, and retired aged 55, to work for 5 years as Bursar at the Gregg School in Southampton where Gemma had been a pupil, and his wife, Sue, was the Librarian. The Gregg School made the initial donation to Gemma to build the first small classroom, which mushroomed into the school of 200+ pupils which now exists!
As might be expected, Peter and Sue have worked hard to make sure that the school is a success, through personal donations, fundraising and seeking sponsors for the students.
